Moves to improve the urban environment by reducing noise, air pollution and traffic congestion are evolving rapidly, with the UK Government actively looking to explore new approaches and introduce initiatives such as Clean Air Zones
As a member of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, MAGTEC is fully committed to supporting the shift towards more environmentally-friendly vehicles and fuels. We work hard to design and deliver cost-effective drivetrain solutions that offer a range of environmental benefits without compromising performance. We believe this is good for business, good for bus drivers, good for passengers and pedestrians – and good for the planet.
The air pollutant emissions from buses contribute significantly to overall air quality. Emissions of particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2 or NOx), un-burnt hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) are all regulated by Euro emissions standards which have recently become even more stringent. Switching to a full EV or range-extended drivetrain is the simplest and most effective way of complying with existing and future legislation.
Funding and commercial support: good reasons to switch
The LCVP’s Bus Working Group (BWG) comprises the UK’s leading bus manufacturers, large operators, low carbon technology and fuel suppliers, passenger transport executives, the Department for Transport, Transport for London and local authorities. The group’s primary focus is to support the growth of the low carbon bus (LCB) market. The BWG plays an active role in informing and influencing Government policies to encourage the take-up of low emission bus technologies and fuels.
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is a team working across Government to support the early market for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV). OLEV is providing over £900 million to position the UK at the forefront of the global developments in ULEV manufacture and use.
Some £30 million of this package has been allocated to low emission bus initiatives. The LCVP is playing an integral role in assisting both OLEV and DfT to shape and deliver the new Low Emission Bus Scheme.
